- Children Of The Revolution
-
With the older members of the
Senior Saltmine
wanting to have a time just to talk about their weeks with God,
the
Discussion Group
was set up so people aged 15-25 were able to go and
spend an hour each Friday talking about issues and ideas related to God,
or any experiences they've had during the previous week.
The group remained nameless for a while and went through many suggestions until we eventually decided on
"The Children Of The Revolution".
This poem simply talks of the youth of the world and their fire for God,
specifically aimed at the members of the group,
but each of us is a Child of the Revolution.
- Eternal Life from Eternal Love
-
This poem talks of the love of God and about how through Christ we are redeemed of our sin.
Meaning that it's through the love of our Father that we get the best seat in the house.
- Rapture
-
This poem was written just after I became a Christian.
It illustrates the fact that our Lord welcomes with open arms
all who turn to him.
Some people are indifferent as to who God will accept into his kingdom,
but this poem tells of the truth;
the fact that all people who accept Christ as their saviour and serve God,
no matter when in their life they do it,
go to heaven.
God saves all who sincerely turn to him,
no matter what a person's past,
they are given new lives and the slate is wiped clean.
- After The Rose Has Wilted
-
This was written to be read out at the Mothering Sunday service at our church,
the poem was on my to-do list for months.
After I read a poem at the Youth Service I was asked to write one for Mother's day,
I tried on many occasions to sit and write one, but the muse never descended.
It took until the Friday before to come to me.
I was sat at the Senior Saltmine in silence,
as Debbie was trying a spiritual ideal of sitting and imagining yourself stepping through heaven's gates.
I did this and the thought of the poem crept into my mind and I got the image of love lasting,
no matter what the gift.
It just basically says that the token of love given on the day is nothing compared to the lasting love of child for mother.
- Torchbearers
-
This poem was written for the Youth Service back in March 2004,
so some may have already heard me read it then.
It tells of how Christ lit the way for his followers to heaven.
His torch shines to guide the saved.
Christ gave us the power to help those who aren't yet saved.
This poem uses the metaphor of a torch to talk of the divine light/gift
we are given when we are saved,
telling of how the greatest thing we can then do is pass the torch.
